Plano is a city in Collin County, in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. The community name derives from Spanish for "plain, level". It is the ninth largest city in Texas, and the seventieth most populous city in the United States with an estimated population of 250,096 in 2005. The city is known as "Hot Air Balloon Capital of Texas". Plano receives an average annual precipitation of 39.2 inches per year. The average winter temperature is 43 degrees F while the average summer temperature is 83 degrees F.
